Erik Bergström, what characterizes your career path?
Rightly or wrongly, I’ve always identified with a certain definition of freedom that can sometimes be subversive or disruptive. From the dream of a singing career to the realization of a digital business, I would say that what characterizes my career path is empathy. By listening and constantly challenging myself, I’ve been able to forge bonds of trust with people from very different backgrounds.
So my spontaneous desire to be of service took me from opportunity to opportunity. By proposing coherent and appropriate solutions, I have inspired the confidence of a number of customers who have been loyal to us since the beginning. Today, the growing demands of our customers give me new challenges every day. On the positive side, my driving force is always to see the glass as half full.
Since 2017, you’ve been putting your creativity and passion to work for your company. What is its mission?
For most of our customers, digital and IT issues are a source of anxiety. By combining strategy, design and technology, we provide a comprehensive response to the digitalization needs of very small businesses, offering them a quality service that reassures them. We combine the versatile skills of a front-line team to provide local service, with the advantages of a group thanks to a network of specialists in the background. Our mission is to make the day-to-day life of small businesses easier by providing them with the knowledge and high-performance tools they need to optimize their processes and visibility.
What services do you offer?
From the creation of a website to the development of an autonomous platform and its promotion, our strength lies in a 360° offer including industrialized services and customized services. We act as a one-stop shop for SMEs, covering all their digital needs. This is as much at the strategic level as at the creative and technical levels.
You position yourself as a partner to your customers, rather than a service provider. How do you do it?
By taking an in-depth interest in their issues, focusing on their interests and responding with sustainable solutions.
What values underpin Play Digital’s activities?
Our main values are respect for the right balance between automation and human intervention, commitment and fun – the most important in my opinion.
Why is it important to think about the digital transformation of your VSE or SME?
This is important if we are to remain competitive for future generations. Innovation isn’t always necessary: the BIC pen, for example, has been the same for over 50 years, but usage is changing, and a company that doesn’t adapt risks losing ground over the next few years.
What sets the company apart from its competitors in the digital sector?
The mix of backgrounds, the proximity to our customers, the speed of intervention and, above all, the flexibility and proactivity offered by our model.
You are also developing the pharmonline.ch platform. What’s it all about?
This is a platform designed to promote and facilitate the management of independent pharmacy services.
Since 2018, we’ve been developing the latter, which aims to promote Swiss independent pharmacy services. With over 300 active pharmacies on the platform, we are confident that PharmOnline will become one of the leaders in the field over the next few years. An exciting case to follow…
How do you see the future of this platform and Play Digital?
I see it becoming the national reference platform for care services that will increasingly be provided by pharmacists too. My vision for the future of Play Digital is to pursue the development of other platforms. Convinced that it is SMEs that will change the world, we are committed to working with them to meet their challenges.
